“Ashtray Flower”

“Ashtray Flower”

Rain cloud in a sky of smog, dark but not in our
kind of shade. You are a
sugar grain thawed on my tongue even as
I languish in smoke and cough bitter tales
for a twisted crowd. Your fingers
slide on distortion and transform
ugliness into a thousand memories
gently caught in a grin
and so sweetly pressed back
onto my lips. I have felt in a second
a breath lost for eternity, an ache
tossed like dry rage bodies into
ice sleet rivers, and the limbs
shiver, the heart worries
long before I could even say
your name.
